Why is SETI not searching for signs of intelligent life on planets found in the habitable zone of stars FIRST, before just looking for a needle in the haystack? Today I am seeing more and more planets being found in that zone where there is the possibility of life.

I would suggest asking that question in the Seti forums for an answer.
