Since updating to the latest version of BOINC I've noticed the speed at which my main computer processes WU's has slowed down alot and slowed my computer down alot also. My older computer using an older version of BOINC has no problems but over the last week in particular if I don't reset my computer daily it almost doubles the time it takes to do WU's. I run the computer the same way as I've always done. For an example Cosmology used to take 12-14 hours per WU now it's taking 21-26 hours to do one unless I reset daily. There's nothing I do differently on the computer so what's up? Does anyone know where I can download an earlier version that won't slow down?

Are you running the WUProp project? There was a bug in it, only just fixed.

Don't even know what that is so don't think I am. The only projects I'm running are Enigma, Primegrid and Cosmology.

Oh just read the sticky too. Sorry

BOINC is a managing program, it doesn't do any calculations. So any slowdowns that you see are due to changes to the science programs doing the calculations, or problems with your computer. Something to check for is the amount of dust built up inside your computer, this will affect how your CPU works.

Then why would it have only started over the past few weeks and always go back to being fine after a reset?

To see whether the problem is caused by the tasks from one of your three projects, you could for each project in turn:

* in Boinc manager Projects tab set one project to No New Tasks
* let the tasks for that project complete
* see whether the problem persists with only the other two projects running

I'd be surprised to see tasks from any of the projects you've mentioned having this effect but you never know.

It would also be worth checking your account at each of your projects and looking at the tasks your computer has had. Are they completing successfully or are quite a few crashing before completion?

You're not seeing "Suspending Computation-CPU usage is too high" in the logs are you?

Actually, I don't think that will change the run time, just the wall time.

Processor throttling? When my laptop starts taking a long time to crunch normally quick units I know it's time to remove the 20 kilos of dust that's built up inside ;)

Changed the memory configuration recently?

I know it's dusty. Last time I opened a computer to de-dust it I had to buy a whole new one. I know it slows my computer down but I don't see how it can slow it down that much. It's working fine now. Haven't reset it in over 48 hours so It leads me to think it's a problem with something other than dust. I can't afford a new computer so aren't going to de-dust it.

And I never see that message in the log. I do check. Iono guess I'll just have to put up with it. Sorry to have bothered but thanks for your help.

What is your "Use at most XX% of CPU time (Can be used to reduce CPU heat)" preference set to?
