i'm having trouble with the graphics displaying (just getting the logo + text).
doing a process of elimination, i don't remember SPECIFICALLY whether i installed it as a service or not. i just went with all the defaults. so.......
1) how does the default install run (service or not)?
2) how can i check for sure?

Default, I think is not.
To check, look at the early messages in the Messages tab.
Running as a daemon = service (protected) mode.
Running under account xxxxxxx = not protected mode.

Note: xxxxxx will usually be the name of the computer owner.

Graphics problems: First step - make sure that you're using the latest drivers from THE DISPLAY CARD MAKER, not from Windows. They need OpenGL, whereas Microsoft's is DirectX.

It's pretty much irrelevant if installed as service or not with 6.10 or 6.12. On both my W7 and Linux (daemon only), and having additionally selected "All users" on top of service (protected mode) during the install (only offered during a windows install) provides graphics on both platforms. Linux of course (still) has no BOINC screensaver.

For Windows, if you visit the services.msc admin panel and see BOINC as an entry, then you'll know it's a service loading before sign in.

thanks.

yeah, it's nowhere in services.msc...
so any idea what issue i'm having with the graphics not displaying?

If my previous hint didn't help, then perhaps if you tell us for which project you don't have graphics? It may be one that doesn't have any.
