Currently I have boinc running windows tasks using the Win client under WINE. I have now installed manager and client in Tiny10, a minimal version of Windows10 in a VM. How likely is it that I could copy the user data including running tasks from the installation under WINE. I would before running the tasks in the VM turn off network access to allow the tasks to run to completion and compare the zip files between the two. Would the different reported versions of Windows 10
Enterprise LTSB x64 Edition, (10.00.19044.00) in the VM and Ultimate N x64 Edition, (10.00.18362.00) as reported by WINE cause any problems.

Any hints or reasons why it isn't possible welcome.

My thinking is that as it is running on the same hardware, this might be viable.

I have managed to copy the BOINC data folder from the Tiny10 there to my WINE installation of BOINC. got the same two tasks running under both. I can confirm that the first two zips at least produce identical files. The only question left is the validity of the tasks that crash in a windows installation but not under the WINE one.

The Difference in reported Windows Versions between WINE and the VM Could impact task behavior due to OS-Specific Dependencies, Through data replication between Tin10 and WINE looks promising, task crashes in Windows, not under WINE, suggest potential environment-specific issues. Investigating environment discrepancies and examining how tasks interact with each environment can provide insights to resolve these discrepancies for better task stability.

Glen at CPDN believes there is a some memory protection with wine that stops the error. Both the test work units completed under both instances of BOINC and all output files were identical. The one unknown left is whether the tasks that crash under Windows are valid under Winey The way CPDN works with statistical analyses to determine whether results get used means a lot of computers using wine would be needed and I suspect it won't be a priority for the project.
