Struggling to understand this.

I'm trying to run BOINC using an additional GPU (the CPU has a GPU unit also).

I've created a cc_config.xml as follows:

<cc_config>
<options>
<use_all_gpus>1</use_all_gpus>
</options>
</cc_config>

This config is saved in the correct BOINC data directory as given in the log file below.

However, on starting BOINC the log is as follows:
16/07/2017 22:56:22 | | Starting BOINC client version 7.6.33 for windows_x86_64

This was true 1) before I Googled, found out, created and edited the cc_config.xml, 2) persists after I created the above cc_config.xml, 3) persists after rebooting multiple times, 4) persists after reinstalling BOINC, rebooting a few more times, swapping to another identical GPU, adding and removing powered risers (the above is with the GPU physically plugged into the PCIEx16 slot).

W.T.F. Anyone got any advice on what's going on here? It surely can't be that the APU's GPU is considered 'better' than the one that gets 10x the GFLOPS, plus the use all gpus flag is supposed to override that?

How are you creating/editing the cc_config.xml file? It needs to be strictly text only.

The simplest advice is:

Use Notepad
Save using ANSI encoding
Save as type 'All files'

Otherwise, Windows tends to save it as

cc_config.xml.txt

with the final four characters hidden.

Yup, done that, but thanks for thinking of it. :)

And where did you put it? From your log, it should be in

C:\ProgramData\BOINC

That's correct (sorry, I was trying to make that plain in the first post).

Even after a night's sleep, I'm afraid I'm out of ideas on this one.

Oh, just one last try:

If you go to Options, Event Log Options in BOINC Manager and make a minor change (which you can undo later), BOINC will write out a complete pro-forma cc_config.xml file. If you edit that version of the file, BOINC should be able to read it back in. You might also be helped to work out what the difference is between your file and BOINC's file.

Absolutely. No. Clue. What. Happened, but it's sorted itself out, seemingly overnight. Computers......

Now happily whizzing through MilkyWay WUs about ~1min20s to finish one.

Thanks so much for the late night support, I'll try to pay it forwards.
