GPU is missing in Boinc after service

Joshua Nicoll Send message Joined: 7 Jul 16 Posts: 11	Message 70739 - Posted: 7 Jul 2016, 6:26:30 UTC I have a Radeon HD 7870, which was being used to process data, but after I took the card out and cleaned it in reinstalled and booted again it claims it is missing. I did reset the bios during the reinstall, but I doubt that would have changed anything. It was working on SETI@home. I double checked it was using the right drivers and it is. The OS is Linux. Jord Volunteer tester Help desk expert Send message Joined: 29 Aug 05 Posts: 15480	Message 70743 - Posted: 7 Jul 2016, 12:06:48 UTC If you start BOINC at the start of the operating system, it can happen under Linux that the required drivers (e.g. x-server) aren't loaded yet and that the GPU detection fails. Simple solution is to wait until the OS has fully loaded and then start BOINC. You can try it now by exiting BOINC and restarting it. ID: 70743 ·

I completely removed boinc and it worked but after a afterstarting the machine it broke again, which means you might be right there. It works fine with my other machine though, but that has a nvidia GPU. The two OS's are both the same and configured the same. I'll try restarting service then. ID: 70750 ·

I notice you are running BOINC client version 7.2.42, later versions 7.6.31 onwards provide better support and diagnostics. If you are running a Debian Linux (e.g. ubuntu) you might try this PPA (used to be known as the locotusofborg PPA) to upgrade. ID: 70790 ·
